Synopsis |
Hardly discernable in the semi-darkness, the black-clad dancers of Camut Band slowly emerge on stage. Moments later everything suddenly explodes in the most brilliant fireworks of breath-taking, ear-splitting, life-affirming dance and percussion. Mixing a heady cocktail of tap, flamenco, African drumming and elements of Brazilian capoeira, the group stomps on different-sized drums and in scratchy sand, but also on the rule book. Backed by powerful instruments such as the Senegalese djembe and the Nigerian udu, building up complex compelling rhythms from tapping feet, clicking fingers and even raucously nonsensical conversations, they effortlessly transcend linguistic and cultural barriers in a whirlwind of dramatic energy, joyous spontaneity and sophisticated fun.
Propelled by elegant panache and infctious humour, seven dance vignettes roll tirelessly together to prove that rhythm is indeed a universal language – the heritage of all mankind. |
