Synopsis |
History and origin of Kuntao – a form of martial arts of the Moro Tausug, which is a Muslim tribe in the Sulu archilpelago, Mindanao, Southern Philippines. It can be described as an art of self defense with precise forceful movement that is combined with jump, kick and deep knee bend infused with dance. Filipino artists have made this famous all over the world as they have incorporated such beautiful gestural vocabularies in some of their performances e.g. PETA’s Ramayana.
Mr. Mario Leofer Lim, well known choreographer, musician and cultural worker from Davao will teach the different basic movements, gesture and body posture of Kuntao. At the end of the workshop, each participant should be able to perform the basic movements and to apply them in dance/dance theatre performances. |
