Synopsis |
A poor shoemaker came to his last piece of leather and decided to cut it to make a pair of shoes. Whilst the shoemaker and his wife were sleeping, some Elves came into the shop and made a pair of “Party Shoes”. In the morning the shoemaker found the shoes and quickly sold them. A little later he left to buy more leather. On his return to the shop he cut out two pairs of shoes and put leather for other shoes away. Again the Elves made up the shoes. After cutting the second piece of leather the shoemaker and his wife decided to stay awake to see who was making the shoes. At twelve O’clock they saw the Elves appear to make the shoes. When they left the shoemaker and his were so happy they danced together. The wife said she would make the Elves a jacket and the dragged the shoemaker off to bed clutching a pair of ballet shoes. She made the clothes, and laid them on the table. Then they went and hid behind the curtain to watch what the little Elves would do. At midnight the Elves came in and were going to sit sown at their work as usual. But when they saw the clothes lying there for them, they laughed and were in high glee. They dressed themselves in the twinkling of an eye, and danced and capered and sprang about as merry as could be, till at last they danced out of the door, and over the green. The shoemaker saw them disappear, and everything went well with him as long as he lived. |
