Synopsis |
The Young Ballet Stars Award competition not only provides a valuable platform for our student members to gain stage experience in front of international judges, it also provides an opportunity for them to build up their confidence and improve their technique in ballet. In addition to encouraging new dancers to enter the competition, our aim this year is to gie past contestants an opportunity to improve as dancers by “raising the competition bar” providing them with new challenges and expanding the competition repertoire.
The theme for 2008 competition is the “Magic of Tchaikovsky”, and excerpts have been selected from three of Tchaikovsky’s important ballets, The Nutcracker, The Sleeping Beauty, and Swan Lake. We believe that it is essential for allstudents of classical ballet to have a fundamental understanding of these standards of the classical ballet repertoire, and the best way to gain this understanding is through performance. |
