Synopsis |
An evening with dances created by the Company’s young choreographers. Seven creative new works in different styles – contemporary, rock and neoclassical - with a connecting thread of colour (hence the primary) connected the moves. Conceived and developed within the Company, the project exemplifies artistic director John Meehan’s belief that “…dancers showcasing their own creativity is essential to nurture the artistic talents of next generation.”
05:46 by Hiroto Saito - inspired by a true story of an earthquake that shook choreographer Hiroto Saito’s home town of Kobe in 1995; Hesperidium by Carlo Pacis - a piece about self-discovery, explores our desire for what other people possess without realizing that we have the same thing; Just do it ! by Li Yi-ran – takes Pink Floyd’s Time from Dark Side of the Moon and uses its fast rhythm and sheer impulsiveness to pump up the dancers; Mirror by Crystal Costa - by looking at her reflection in a mirror, a woman sees herself as a child. Remembering the little girl in her, she yearns to live with her carefree, naïveté again. The dance becomes a beautiful chase between two, hoping to create a single soul again; Sakula by Yuh Egami - Japanese nuances of cherry blossom inspires choreographer Yuh Egami for a contemplation of life, love, death and tunnel between the living and the dead; Tainted Sheet by Selina Chau -
Rodion Shchedrin’s percussive take on Bizet’s Carmen inspires Selina Chau to get back to basics. Intrigued by two composers a century apart, telling one story of betrayal-tainted love; There is a table… by Eve Chan - Humour, set in a restaurant, is Eve Chan’s starting point of creation. |
