Synopsis |
Mulan was very worried because the name of his feeble old father was included in the conscription. Lack of an elder brother to take her father’s place, Mulan decided to join the army. After years of battles, Mulan won comradeship among fellow soldiers. At the end of the war, she gave up the award of a high official position at court, in return for a safe return to her home town to take care of her father.
The dance drama demonstrated traditional Chinese virtues through the unusual adventures and moving story of Mulan. There was filial piety and the spirit of sacrifice for the benefit of others. There was perseverance and persistence in hiding one’s identity for years. Mulan was a heroine with moral courage and yet effeminate and intelligent. The dance drama demonstrated the love of peace by the Chinese with an anti-war significance. |
