《紅菱艷》是導演米高・鮑華與艾默力・柏斯保格的傑作，亦是經典的芭蕾舞電影。擁有天賦的芭蕾舞新星維琪在愛情與事業之間掙扎。導演以安徒生的童話《紅色舞鞋》為藍本，細緻道盡芭蕾舞者以不顧一切的力量，執迷狂熱地重踏舞台；非凡的劇力、優雅卓越的編舞及音樂，跳躍出浪漫與夢幻的舞蹈人生。影片大部份在蒙地・卡羅與法國南部拍攝，蔚藍的醉人實景，以及絢麗奪目的場景設計及色彩，每一段聚焦舞蹈的場景都是電影史上的經典鏡頭。
