Synopsis |
‘The leading innovator of modern flamenco’ - New York Times
To transcend the myth of the ‘femme fatale’, sculpted by Prosper Mérimée, María Pagés choreographed I, Carmen to reflect the lives and feelings of real women. This new personal creative path taken by María Pagés is deeply rooted in her desire to talk about women, drawing on her own vital, emotional, physical, sentimental and creative life experiences as a woman – as a flamenco dancer, choreographer, Andalusian, Spaniard and passionate advocate of universality.
Now, at the age of 50, she feels that her emotional and intellectual achievements give her the distance she needs to talk about the female universe she is part of. Her conviction is that Carmen is in all women and that all women are Carmen. |
