Synopsis |
Su Dongpo attained dazzling heights in all genres of literary arts – from poetry to prose, painting to calligraphy. Su Shi (1037 – 1101), alias Dongpo is one of the best-loved scholars in Chinese history, and stands tall at the pinnacle of Chinese culture.
Inspired by the legendary life and enlightened works of this Song dynasty literary giant, Leung Kwok-shing created Poet Dongpo, a grand dance drama to celebrate the legacy of this dashing man of letters. Based on the principles of taichi, the choreography of Poet Dongpo centred on concepts of heaven, earth and man. Fusing sound, visuals, forms and movements, the multimedia production brought back the cheerful spirit of this great man of letters, and traced his rollercoaster career in politics and key events of his dramatic life.
With creative talents from Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong joining forces to conjure the spirit of poetry with music and movement, Poet Dongpo lyrically invoked Su’s verses with dance, and led the audience into the literati's world of poetic freedom and intense emotions. |
