Synopsis |
Qingming Riverside premiered at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in July 2007 to commemorate the Tenth Anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong SAR. In July 2008, Qingming Riverside toured to the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Beijing at the invitation of the Ministry of Culture, being the only dance performance to represent Hong Kong at the “Meet in Beijing 2008” Arts Festival.
In response to popular demand, the epic dance spectacle Qingming Riverside made its triumphant return in Hong Kong. Lauded as “a stage wonder that arises from a painting masterpiece”, this crown jewel of the Hong Kong dance community is something to be very proud of.
Directed and choreographed by Hong Kong Dance Company’s Artistic Director Leung Kwok-shing and featuring a hundred dancers and creative personnel, the opulent spectacle Qingming Riverside explores traditional Chinese culture through tapping into the rich dance culture of China as the basis of performance. It depicts the lives of Bianjing citizens during the Northern Song Dynasty (AD 960-1126) in broad painterly impressions, inviting the audience to travel through time to the dynamic city on the River Bian. This living painting salutes the long and profound history of Chinese culture through contemporary expressions. |
