Biography
Dr. Miranda Chin - Artistic Director/ Choreographer
Since 1970s, Miranda Chin has engaged in more than 100 pieces of dance works, serving as dancer, choreographer and coordinator. Chin founded the Danceland and the Miranda Chin Dance Company in 1981 and 1989 respectively and making great contribution to the development of dance in Hong Kong. From 1982 to 1986, she studied Chinese dance and modern dance-the Laban Movement Analysis in Beijing and New York respectively. Chin won the Dancer of the Year Award from the Hong Kong Artists’ Guild in 1989. She was listed in the Who’s Who of Contemporary Achievement and received the World Lifetime Achievement Award by the American Biographical Institute. She also received the Twentieth Century Award for Achievement from the International Biographical Centre of Cambridge, the United Kingdom. Her choreography includes Princess Chang Ping, Chinese Rhythms & Movements, Four Seasons and Calligraphy Fantasia, and for the Hong Kong Dance Company, Nu Wo, Pink Lady Pan Jinlian and Homeland. Since 2001, she has created a series of Chinese cultural modern dance of "Martial Arts & Tai Chi". She was a senior Visiting Scholar at the Beijing Sport University in 2004. In 2010, with the support of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, Chin wrote a book to share with readers the process and experience of her exploration, realization and experimentation during the creation of the dances for Wuji in 2001-2008. Wuji comprises of seven episodes, and each episode makes use of one creative plot around wushu taichi. In 2011, Chin gave touring lectures at Universities in Mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan in which she shared her creative experiences and findings. At the same year, Chin has studied at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts for innovative dance language of research.
