Founder |
Biography Founder of Y-Space in 1995 with Mandy Yim, Victor was one of the first graduates of the School of Dance at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA). Upon graduation, Victor joined the Hong Kong Ballet, and resumed study at the HKAPA School of Drama in 1990. In 1996, he received the Asian Cultural Council Lee Hysan Foundation Fellowship to conduct research on dance and theatre in the USA. In 2002, he further received the Hong Kong Arts Development Council/ University of Leeds Chevening Scholarship, for a Master's degree programme in Performance Studies in the UK. Victor has presented work and performed in Germany, South Korea, Zimbabwe, India, Poland, Norway and mainland China.
Over the past years, Victor has been directing and choreographing more than 60 works for various Hong Kong and international arts organizations. He also participated in the creation and performance of My Life as a Dancer - the Evolution (2007) for the Hong Kong Arts Festival, and created and directed Angel Emily and Air and Breath II: Phenomenon. Victor's most recent work is his solo Victor Ma's Dance Exhibition I & II (2009). He was also the conceiver and coordinator of i-Dance 2009 festival and New Dance Platform 2010, conceiver and choreographer of Hong Kong History Series II - Dance at Walled Villages. In 2001 he was nominated for a Golden Horse for Best Supporting Actor, for his performance in the film The Map of Sex and Love.
