The Hong Kong Arts Centre is excited to present Art Actually HK × Brussels, a cross-disciplinary, multi-art encounter in collaboration with the Belgian cultural centre Les Halles de Schaerbeek during 6–8 July 2017. Twenty artists will bring the audience an exchange of cross-disciplinary arts and cultures this summer, presenting nine performances with three site-specific works in theatres and public spaces of the Hong Kong Arts Centre.
The open invitation to Hong Kong’s art enthusiasts presents a unique, once in a lifetime chance to experience the act of artistic creation and actively participate with artists as their ideas take shape and come to life. Taking dance as the common language, a dancer-choreographer from one of the participating cities – Brussels and Hong Kong – is matched with an artist from another discipline: from theatres, circuses, films and sound arts, textiles, ink painting to visual art installation.
This is a cross-cultural exchange between creative minds that pushes boundaries in an effort to uncover the new and shared common ground. The works are produced and rooted in the physicality of movement, presenting artistic synergies that feed off the communal experience of both performers and spectators.
The collaboration between Brussels and Hong Kong’s artistic communities began last year and the first fruits were presented in Brussels in September 2016. Nine months later, the artists reunite in Asia to push their creative endeavours further still.
Along with six shows and three site-specific events, audiences will also be treated to a taste of Belgium’s rich history of brewing beer, together with the nation’s culinary delights, experiencing the Belgian culture from various perspectives. |
